Interactive Brokers (IBKR) has announced an expansion of its trading platform, now offering clients access to Bursa Malaysia, one of Southeast Asia’s largest stock exchanges. This new addition allows IBKR clients to trade Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) denominated equities and ETFs alongside a comprehensive array of global assets, including stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and funds, all from a unified platform.

Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, Malaysia’s sole stock exchange, boasts a market capitalization of USD 380 billion and includes 970 listed companies across diverse sectors such as financial services, manufacturing, and oil and gas. By integrating Malaysian-denominated equities products, Interactive Brokers enhances its global investment offerings, providing clients with fresh opportunities to engage with Malaysia’s dynamic economy.

To streamline the trading process, Interactive Brokers will implement automatic foreign exchange (FX) conversion between clients’ base currencies and the Malaysian Ringgit. This feature will ensure seamless trading without the need for pre-trade currency conversions, with rates determined by current foreign exchange market conditions.

David Friedland, Head of APAC at Interactive Brokers, remarked, “Interactive Brokers offers clients worldwide superior market and product access, allowing them to create diversified portfolios across geographies and asset classes. Introducing stocks on the Bursa Malaysia allows our clients to add exposure to Malaysian equities with the benefit of having Interactive Brokers manage the cost associated with currency conversion.”

In addition to equities, Interactive Brokers clients can now trade Crude Palm Oil Futures (FCPO) and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures (FKLI), further expanding their investment opportunities.

So, this expansion shows Interactive Brokers’ commitment to providing comprehensive, global trading solutions and enhancing client access to emerging markets.
