Saxo Bank has shared planned changes to its OpenAPI regarding asset type classification for its Crypto FX pairs for May 2025. Currently, all of Saxo’s Crypto FX pairs are under the AssetType “FxSpot,” with a DisplayHint value of “CryptoCurrencies.” However, starting in May 2025, these instruments will be assigned a new AssetType called “FxCrypto,” which will no longer feature a DisplayHint value.

The impacted instruments, identified by their UICs, include the following Crypto FX pairs:

  • 21700189: BTCUSD (Bitcoin/US Dollar)
  • 21750301: ETHUSD (Ethereum/US Dollar)
  • 21776927: BTCEUR (Bitcoin/Euro)
  • 21776932: ETHEUR (Ethereum/Euro)
  • 21776937: BTCJPY (Bitcoin/Japanese Yen)
  • 21776938: ETHJPY (Ethereum/Japanese Yen)

To ensure a smooth transition, Saxo Bank advises developers to adjust their applications to handle both AssetTypes, “FxSpot” and “FxCrypto,” when processing these instruments. This preparation will help prevent disruptions once the change is fully rolled out.

During the transition period, requests sent to OpenAPI should continue using the “FxSpot” AssetType for the affected instruments. Saxo Bank has confirmed that it will continue accepting “FxSpot” alongside these UICs for the foreseeable future. However, after receiving the instruments classified as “FxCrypto,” clients may begin using “FxCrypto” in their requests as well.

So, the planned changes aim to streamline the classification of Crypto FX pairs in OpenAPI and will take effect in May 2025.
