Saxo Bank has shared important updates to its OpenAPI, announcing the release of version 3 of its charts endpoints while planning to deprecate version 1 by February 2025. This transition aims to enhance the user experience and provide more accurate market data.

One of the key improvements in version 3 is the introduction of new horizon sampling. Unlike version 1, which used “artificial” start times, the new sampling begins at the actual opening time of exchanges and markets. This adjustment is particularly beneficial for instruments that start trading on the half-hour mark, such as those listed on NASDAQ, ensuring more reliable and relevant data for traders and analysts.

Additionally, Saxo has expanded the range of available candle lengths (horizons) in version 3. Users can now select from various options, including 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 3 hours (180 minutes), 5 hours (300 minutes), as well as extended periods like 3 months (129,600 minutes) and 1 year (518,400 minutes). This flexibility allows for a more tailored approach to analyzing market trends.

It is important to note that these changes may impact existing scripts that rely on recalculation, back-testing, or other forms of data manipulation, as the new sampling method may alter the results.

Saxo Bank assures its users that the request/response contract remains identical to the current version 1 charts endpoint. This means that transitioning to version 3 should be a seamless, plug-and-play experience for developers and traders alike.

As Saxo prepares for the deprecation of version 1, users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new features and enhancements offered in version 3 to maximize their trading strategies and data analysis capabilities.
