Interactive Brokers continued to expand its global brokerage business in August 2026, with client assets, accounts and margin balances all recording substantial year-on-year growth.

The brokerage reported 4.276 million Daily Average Revenue Trades (DARTs) for August, representing a 23% increase from the same month last year. However, trading activity declined 3% compared with July 2026, indicating a modest month-on-month slowdown despite the strong annual growth.

Client equity reached $962.8 billion at the end of August, up 35% from a year earlier and 6% from July. The figure puts Interactive Brokers within sight of the $1 trillion milestone in client equity, highlighting the continued expansion of assets held on its platform.

Margin activity also strengthened. Ending client margin loan balances stood at $101.5 billion, increasing 41% year-on-year and 1% month-on-month. The growth suggests that clients continued to make significant use of leverage and margin facilities as market participation remained elevated.

Meanwhile, ending client credit balances rose to $185.6 billion, including $6.4 billion held through insured bank deposit sweeps. Total client credit balances were 27% higher than in August 2025 and 3% above the July figure.

Interactive Brokers also reported continued growth in its customer base. The number of client accounts reached 5.460 million at the end of August, representing a 35% increase from the prior year and a 3% rise from the previous month.

The brokerage said the average commission per cleared Commissionable Order was $2.52, including exchange, clearing and regulatory fees. The figure provides an indication of the relatively low-cost trading model underpinning Interactive Brokers’ platform as it continues to attract and retain clients.

Overall, August’s figures point to continued expansion across several key areas of Interactive Brokers’business. While monthly DARTs edged lower, the substantial annual increases in client equity, margin loans and account numbers underscore the brokerage’s broader growth trajectory heading into the final months of 2026.
