By opting for automatic dividend reinvestment, traders are granting Interactive Brokers the authority to reinvest any dividends they are ready to receive. This includes dividends from certain stocks and ETFs available in both the United States and Canada. Once enrolled, clients can expect their dividends to be automatically reinvested into additional shares without needing to take any manual action.

Interactive Brokers Automatic Dividend Reinvestment for Clients

The reinvestment process is straightforward. On the morning following the confirmation of a dividend payment for an eligible stock or ETF, Interactive Brokers will utilize the dividend payment—or a cash-in-lieu of dividend payment if the shares are on loan at the time of payment—to purchase additional shares of the stock or ETF in question. This feature allows investors to benefit from compound growth by reinvesting dividends directly back into their portfolios.

To enroll in the Dividend Reinvestment Program, clients can easily navigate through their account settings. Advisors, brokers, and proprietary trading limit clients can enroll by accessing the Dashboard > Contacts tab in the Portal. By clicking the information icon for the desired account, clients can open the Client Account Details page and enable dividend reinvestment by selecting the Edit link in the Account Configuration section.
